Open Source

The event ‘Open Source’ is an initiative by the ‘Setup’, an Utrecht based institute with a main focus on the fusion of technology and culture. Setup organizes a wide array of events such as debates, workshops and exhibitions and one of these is the previously named Open Source, which was held last year from May to July. The concept of this event is to ‘open source’ everything by providing links to download everything involving the party. With everything I mean everything, from the audio played at the party, blueprints from the used furniture, software to the ingredients of the beverages that were served. all with the intention that others have the ability to use, reuse or alter every element of the event. A soft of protest to the narrow minded idea of expensive and copyrighted software, designs, music and so on. My contribution involved creating a number of graphics to be used, among other, for the mix-album made –displayed below– for the happening and a ‘curtain’ for a fair in town to promote the event. The idea was to make an organised chaos by taking and mixing textures, but maintaining them in a frame. The results, shown below, can also be downloaded and altered by going to party.setup.nl/
